The NYC cannabis event scene covers a wide range of formats and audiences. Here's the full landscape.
CSE / Pop-Ups (Showcase Events)
Licensed dispensaries can now run temporary pop-up sales with an OCM permit and city sign-off. NYC examples: Poppin across from Javits (Oct 8–11) and the Smith Street Showcase in Brooklyn. See upcoming CSE / pop-ups →
4/20 Celebrations
Block parties, pop-ups, and community gatherings hosted by licensed businesses across all five boroughs. Check each host for current details.
Dispensary Event Series
Some shops, such as ALTA, run regular in-store programming — yoga, game nights, brand meet & greets. Other shops are building their own. Check each shop's channels for current dates.
Expungement Clinics
Some shops and community groups host free record-clearing events. Dates change, so ask the shop first. The Legal Aid Society's Case Closed Project can check whether a conviction is eligible for sealing.
Cannabis 101 Workshops
Shops such as ConBud and New Amsterdam have offered education-focused sessions — cannabinoid basics and Cannabis 101 for newcomers. Check each shop for current dates.
Trade Shows & Expos
Revelry Buyers' Club and Hall of Flowers NYC (both at Pier 36), Cannabis Means Business (Javits, June) and Flower Expo (February) bring operators, brands, investors, and advocates together. The business side of the boom.
Rally & March Events
The NYC Cannabis Parade & Rally (NYCCPR) is one of the world's longest-running marijuana legalization marches. Policy, community, and culture all in one.

ALTA Dispensary has hosted wellness events — yoga, sound baths, breathwork, and guided meditation. A growing format as wellness and cannabis converge.

Beyond dispensaries, these spaces have become central to NYC's cannabis event culture.
Culture House NYC
Midtown Manhattan event space used for private brand activations and community programming. Confirm availability and cannabis policy with the venue.
Pier 36
Lower East Side waterfront. Host of the Revelry Buyers' Club (Sept 18) and Hall of Flowers NYC (Oct 21–22, 2026) trade shows.
Javits Center
NYC's main convention center. Hosts Cannabis Means Business (formerly the Cannabis World Congress & Business Exposition) each June.
Brooklyn Venues
Williamsburg, Bushwick, and Park Slope are active hubs for community events, with flexible gallery and event spaces throughout.
Inside Dispensaries
ALTA, ConBud, and New Amsterdam all use their own retail spaces for events — the most authentic setting in the city.

How to Run a Cannabis Pop-Up in NYC (CSE Rules)
Since April 29, 2026, temporary cannabis sales events run under the state's Cannabis Showcase Event (CSE) rules (Cannabis Law §130-a; 9 NYCRR Part 117). Here is the short version for licensed operators.
Get the OCM Event Permit
Pop-ups that sell product need a CSE permit from OCM. The permit holder is a licensed adult-use retailer (a dispensary, including retail microbusinesses).
Get the City's Sign-Off First
In NYC, apply to Cannabis NYC (inside Small Business Services) for municipal authorization before OCM can act. Expect community board involvement and start early. Poppin went before Manhattan Community Board 4 first.
File 45 Days Ahead
Submit a complete application, including the municipal form, at least 45 days before the event. A permit covers up to 14 consecutive days, and one location can host showcase days on no more than 45 days a year. Approvals often land close to the date; the slow parts are site control and city sign-off.
Only the Permit Holder Sells
Cultivators and processors named on the permit can take part, but they cannot sell to attendees directly or hand out free samples. Keep sales and showcase areas clearly separate.
21+ and No On-Site Consumption
Check ID at the door for every guest. At Poppin, attendees were 21+ with valid ID, and consumption was not allowed on site. Follow the same standard.
