How to Run a Compliant Cannabis Event in NYC
New York's cannabis event rules are evolving. Here's what every licensed operator needs to know before hosting a public activation.
Licensed Operators Only
Only NYS-licensed cannabis businesses can legally organize cannabis-specific events. Your OCM license number must be on file for any activation involving products.
Know Your Community Board
Public events in NYC often require community board notification. Prep your presentation early — your neighbors are your biggest allies and your biggest risk.
Age Verification is Non-Negotiable
All cannabis events are 21+. You need ID checking at the door for any event where products are displayed or sampled. No exceptions.
No Public Consumption at Events
Public cannabis consumption remains regulated. Events can feature products without on-site consumption unless specifically permitted and at a designated consumption site.
Document Everything
Keep records of your license, vendor agreements, and event plans. If OCM or NYPD shows up, your paperwork is your protection.
Partner with Green Events NYC
We help licensed operators navigate event planning from concept through compliance — so you can focus on the community, not the paperwork.
